You and your dog are not limited to the off-leash area when you visit Walnut Creek Recreation Area.
Walnut Creek Lake and Recreation Area offer a vast 450-acre space with a mixed-use recreation area and a 105-acre reservoir. Your dog needs to be on a leash if you want to explore Walnut Creek Lake or if you want to take him with you while hiking and biking.
There are also picnic and playground sites on-site, which can be reserved. Visit the park’s website to learn more about rates and schedules.
However, if you want to let Fido play off-leash, there’s more than enough space at the dog park on-site.
It has two securely fenced areas: one for big dogs and another for small dogs. It also offers a native area with pond access where canines can play in the water.
Make sure you do your part in keeping the park in tip-top shape. Clean up after your dog promptly. Bring poop bags and dispose of used ones in the waste bins around the park.
Pack plenty of water and your dog’s bowl as well, especially if you plan on going for long walks.
You’ll find Walnut Creek Recreation Area south of Highway 370 and west of 96th Street. There’s also an entrance 1.5 miles west on Schram Road to Turkey Road.
The park is open from 6 A.M. to 10 P.M.
