You’ll find the Halibut Point Recreation Site four miles north of downtown Sitka.
It’s a popular destination for locals who love going on picnics or enjoying long walks and quiet afternoons.
There’s also a half-mile hiking trail on-site that allows you to walk through a coastal spruce and a hemlock forest.
You can also go to the beach on-site.
If you’re planning to bring your dog with you, make sure he’s wearing a leash. Pack poop bags, so you can clean up after your dog. There are waste bins around the park where you can dispose of used bags.
Bring your dog’s bowl and plenty of water as well.
Other amenities available on-site inlcude covered picnic shelters, a volleyball court, and horseshoe pits.
