The wide, open spaces and lake access make the off-leash dog park at James Island County Park one of the best Charleston destinations for outdoorsy fur parents.
You’ll also find excellent dog-friendly amenities on-site. For example, the dog park has separate big and small canines spaces.
Clean water is also available on-site. You can refill your dog’s bowl at the park’s water fountains.
Dogs are allowed to play in the lake, but since there are wildlife animals in the area, make sure you keep a close watch at all times.
There are tables and benches where you can relax, and you can even wash Fido at the dog washing area before heading home.
Apart from the dog park, James Island County Park also features beautiful open meadows.
Saltwater fishing and crabbing are very popular activities on-site.
You’ll also find a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, and an 18-hole disc golf course.
Park-goers can also go camping on-site. The park’s campground has over 100 sites and ten vacation cottages along the Stono River marsh.
Picnic spots with tables and grills are also available on-site.
You can also ride your bike or hop in a pedal boat, kayak, and paddleboard.
If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can try your skills at The Climbing Wall on-site.
You can have fun at the park’s seasonal spray play fountain called the Splash Zone Waterpark during the summer months.
If you’re visiting the park with your colleagues, you can check out the team building and adventure learning programs at The Challenge Course.
Covered shelters and meeting and reception facility rentals are also available on-site.
Check out the park’s website for updates and rental rates.
